A one-man deficit in the second half saw the Stormers fall to a third defeat on the bounce as they were beaten by the Reds, who ran off 24-12 winners in Brisbane on Friday.

The men from the Cape were reduced to 14 men as things were deadlocked on 0-0 on the stroke of halftime when skipper Siya Kolisi was sent to the sin-bin for a high tackle.

The first points of the match came via Wallaby centre Samu Kerevi, whose try was converted by flyhalf Bryce Hegarty, before another seven-pointer followed soon after as Brandon Paenga-Amosa dotted down with the pivot obliging from the tee.

The visitors were back to 15 men in the 50th minute, and immediately showed what they are capable of with a full compliment, as Kobus van Dyk put them on the board, with Jean-Luc du Plessis converting the score.

At 14-7, the Stormers sought to reduce the deficit, but it was Reds scrumhalf Tate McDermott who provided the next score, with Hegarty adding the extra two, before Damian de Allende dived over with six minutes left to play.

Two minutes before the final whistle, the visitors were penalised and Hegarty’s unerring boot took the score to 24-12, closing out any chance of a remarkable comeback.

The Stormers now travel to the last stop in their Australasian tour, as they square off against the Rebels on Friday 12 April, while the Reds embark on a trip to South Africa where they take on the Bulls at Loftus the following day.
