Erasmus made a noteworthy return to a role on the sidelines as a ‘water carrier’ against Scotland this past weekend.

On the SuperSport show Final Whistle, former Bok assistant coach Swys de Bruin has now pointed out one particular moment where South Africa’s director of rugby looks to be communicating with fullback Willie le Roux.

Erasmus points to a Scotland player, and appears to mouth the words “he’s kak” while mimicking him catching the high ball.

Rufus McLean was the Scotland right wing on the day, while Stuart Hogg and Duhan van der Merwe made up the remainder of the back three, with the Boks once again making good use of the contestable kick on Saturday.

For Erasmus, it was an interesting return to his role as a ‘water boy’ this past weekend.

He was seemingly being fazed out of the role after the Lions series, and in fact didn’t travel with the team on their Rugby Championship tour as he focused on preparing for his disciplinary hearing related to a now infamous video he produced in relation to officiating complaints.

The World Cup-winning head coach did rejoin the Boks for the ongoing end-of-year tour, though, but last weekend he was seen in a more traditional position in the coaches box.

Interestingly, Erasmus switched roles once again in Edinburgh on Saturday, this time donning the “water carrier” bib, and providing input from the sidelines.
