Statement wars: SA Rugby’s classy response to England Rugby’s antagonistic stance

SA Rugby and the Springboks have countered the RFU and England’s explosive statement with one of their own in which they welcome World Rugby’s investigative outcome.

There’s been many twists in the allege racism saga between the Springboks’ Bongi Mbonambi and England’s Tom Curry, with SA Rugby now releasing a statement on the matter.

The build up to the World Cup final between the Springboks and All Blacks has been unfortunately overshadowed by an investigation into a so-called ‘racial slur’ allegedly uttered by Mbonambi against flank Curry .

Incident was investigated by World Rugby, and on Thursday the governing body confirmed it had been unable to find any evidence against Mbonambi, and that no action will be taken against the Springbok hooker.

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) of England didn’t take the news well and released an explosive statement slamming World Rugby’s investigation and the subsequent outcome.

SA RUGBY HITS BACK AT RFU WITH CLASSY STATEMENT

In response to both the World Rugby and RFU statements, SA Rugby released one of their own and it was a short, sweet and classy. Read it below:

“SA Rugby has noted World Rugby’s announcement concerning their investigation into an incident arising from the Rugby World Cup semi-final and welcomes the decision that no further action will be taken.”

“Any form of racism is abhorrent to SA Rugby and the Springbok team whose purpose is to do everything in its power to assist in uniting our diverse and multicultural nation.”

“Bongi Mbonambi is an experienced, respected and decorated Test player and, needless to say, denied the allegations from the outset. SA Rugby has absolute faith in the honesty and integrity of Bongi.”

“The team’s focus remains, as it has throughout the week, on Saturday’s match against New Zealand.”

“SA Rugby will make no further comment on the matter.”
