Blitzboks to go into new season without head coach

The Blitzboks will reportedly be without the services of their head coach when they start the 2023-24 sevens campaign in Dubai next month.

According to a report, Sandile Ngcobo will not travel with the Blitzboks to Dubai for the opening tournament of the upcoming sevens season.

SPRINGBOK SEVENS SIDE LOSES COACH

In the rebranded SVNS Series, the two-day tournament in the desert marks the start of the new season, and South Africa have been drawn in Pool A alongside Samoa, New Zealand, and Canada.

The Springbok Sevens team launches its Dubai sevens title defence against Samoa on 2 December, before a clash against last season’s overall champions, New Zealand.

As reported by Netwerk24, Blitzbok head coach Sandile Ngcobo had heel surgery this week which will probably prevent him from travelling to Dubai.

Ngcobo, who it is understood fell during a training session, underwent an operation on Wednesday afternoon and one of his assistants — Philip Snyman — is expected to take charge in his injury-enforced absence.
