Blitzboks coach Sandile Ngcobo has invited three rookies into the Springbok Sevens setup as part of the team’s preparations for the looming Sevens Series campaign.

RECTIFYING MISTAKES OF THE PAST

The Blitzboks are aiming to bounce back from the disappointments of last season’s in the forthcoming Sevens Series, which kicks off in Dubai early next month before moving to Cape Town for the second and final tournament in this calendar year.

Earlier this week, World Rugby released the draw of Dubai pools and the Blitzboks, the defending champions in the desert city, will face defending series champions, New Zealand, Samoa and Canada in Pool A.

In a statement released on Friday, SA Rugby confirmed that head coach Sandile Ngcobo had increased the depth of the Blitzboks’ player-pool by luring two of this year’s Junior Springboks and a Cheetahs player into the sevens camp as they ramp up preparations for the season.

“The Springbok Sevens squad played several warm-up matches against Australia, who had a training camp in South Africa last month,” read the statement.

“They were also boosted by the arrival of two standouts of the Junior Springbok class of 2023, Quewin Nortje and Katlego Letebele, as well as Toyota Cheetahs centre David Britz.”

The Blitzboks are likely to name their official 13-man squad for the Dubai Sevens later this month, with the group scheduled to travel to Dubai on 29 November.
