The Blitzboks will need to beat New Zealand in their final Pool A match at the Singapore Sevens on Saturday – or face elimination from title contention.

The Springbok Sevens side were drawn in a ‘Pool of Death’ – as reported by The South African website – along with the All Blacks, Australia and Hong Kong.

The Blitzboks were beaten badly by Australia in their opening match 19-0 and then bounced back to beat minnows Hong Kong 31-12 – but were embarrassingly outscored 12-10 in the second half.

They now need to beat the table-topping and high-flying All Blacks in their final pool match at 11:28 (SA time) to stand any chance of progressing to the Cup quarter-finals.

By contrast to the Blitzboks’ win over Hong Kong, the All Blacks thrashed them 47-0.

The All Blacks also beat Australia 24-12.
