With just 15 days to go until the 2023 Rugby World Cup kicks off, we delve into the archives to remind you of some of the greatest moments in the tournament’s history. First up: this defensive set by the Springboks to deny England in the 2019 final.

Heading into the 2019 Rugby World Cup, the Springboks were given little to chance of being crowned world champions. And yet, the South Africans beat the odds as they booked their place in the final against a formidable England side that made light work of the All Blacks in their semi-final.

The week building up to the final, there was a clear narrative that England were the favourites and the Springboks were the underdogs. And yet, when it was go time, the South Africans dominated the English from start to finish.

South Africa’s desire to win the final is best illustrated by this excellent sequence of play during which they heroically kept England’s attack at bay.

The clip was recently shared on all the Rugby World Cup social media platforms and described was the greatest set in rugby history.
