South African referee Jaco Peyper had to leave the field injured with Englishman Karl Dixon taking over.

The Pumas went into the break trailing 10-6 but showed plenty in the first 40 to suggest they were well in the game.

Defensive lapses in the first half had put the Pumas under the pump and Dan Biggar crossed for Wales early on.

The first 60 minutes of the contest were tight and tense and the boot of Boffelli kept the Pumas in it and he would give them the lead early in the second period.

Wales looked like they would take control of the contest after Tomos Williams darted through to score.

The Pumas would respond though and Scalvi would surge over to score a crucial Pumas try.

When Boffelli added the two Argentina led 19-17 but the drama wasn’t over at all.

Matthias Moroni produced an incredible tackle to keep Louis Rees Zammit out at the corner.

In the end the finish wouldn’t be as nervous as it might have been as Nicholas Sanchez produced an intercept try that killed off the contest.

Boffelli added the two to put the Pumas out of reach and moments later the Argentines had it in the bag after winning a penalty.

Sanchez kicked the final goal with the clock in red and ensured that Argentina won their quarter by 12 points.
