The PSL transfer saga involving Golden Boot winner Mwape Musonda trying to force a move away from Black Leopards has stagnated.

Musonda appeared keen on a move to one of the PSL’s big boys but despite him handing in a written transfer request, no offers have been forthcoming.

Among the clubs linked with Musonda are Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. Chiefs have been the most active in the transfer window but the signing of multiple foreign players makes a swoop for the Zambian look increasingly unlikely.

Musonda has been linked with a move back to Orlando Pirates, who didn’t seem to appreciate the burly forward’s talents last time around, loaning him out to Golden Arrows before selling him to Limpopo club Leopards.

The striker failed to report for pre-season duty but Leopards refute claims he went AWOL, claiming he had been given extra time off after a trip to Dubai.

As things stand Musonda is contracted to Black Leopards and will remain with the club until they receive an offer that meets their valuation of the player. That mark is believed to be in the region of R8-million.

Leopards team manager Mlungisi ‘Professor’ Ngubane has confirmed Musonda has now rejoined training and will take part in the club’s pre-season fixtures.

PSL transfer saga a distraction

Ngubane says that he has urged Musonda to focus on his football and not allow transfer talk to disrupt his preparation.

“No, Musonda, we are travelling with him,” Ngubane told KickOff.com.

“Although we can’t confirm anything now, he is with the team. As you know, he’s got a contract with the team. You know you can only worry if somebody wants you. At the moment nothing is happening. I was even talking to him this morning that he needs to focus. “

Leopards have made it clear that they are willing to listen to serious offers for the finisher but it appears that Musonda’s suitors are not prepared to put their money where their mouths are.

“If anything comes the chairman is willing to talk. He can’t stand in his way. The chairman wants to see him progress… if he does the right thing he will go with the chairman’s blessing. So for now he is going to focus here and train with the team. We don’t talk about going because he’s got a contract.”

Musonda will take part in the Nkomazi pre-season tournament that will be played in Mpumalanga on Saturday. Leopards reportedly received an offer for the player from abroad but he appears to be eager for a PSL transfer.
