Mamelodi Sundowns have a chance to lay down an early marker in the MTN8 when they host Golden Arrows at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
Pitso Mosimane’s men are one of the pre-tournament favourites and will want to do one better than last year when they fell on the hurdle, losing to Maritzburg United in the quarterfinals.

Their opponents make a return to the competition after nine years of not making the grade, their last appearance being the 2009 edition when they went all the way to claim their only piece of top-flight silverware in their history.

Mamelodi Sundowns vs Golden Arrows: Head to head
Saturday’s clash sees these two sides meet for the first time in the MTN8, largely thanks to Golden Arrows being a rare feature in the tournament.
Their last meeting in all competitions came in April this year when Mamelodi Sundowns skated through as they won 1-0 on their way to a record eighth league title.
Not surprisingly, it’s been the Pretoria-based outfit who have been the overwhelmingly dominant side between these two, winning 17 times in their 27 league encounters, while Abafana Besthende have only manage to register just six victories overall.
