Kaizer Chiefs have a shot at revenge on Saturday when they host Free State Stars in the second MTN8 quarterfinal at FNB Stadium.

The last competitive meeting between these two sides ended in ugly seen in the infamous Nedbank cup semifinal which ended in ugly scenes at Moses Mabhida Stadium after the Glamour Boys were stunned by their less-fancied opponents, who ran off 2-0 winners and, ultimately champions as they lifted their first piece of silverware in over two decades.

Solinas to face up to former side

Chiefs defeat on that day saw the end of the reign of Steve Komphela who, incidentally, joined the club from Free State Stars.

The Soweto giants are back with another man at the helm who will know the Bethlehem-based outfit well in Giovanni Solinas, who has had two previous stints at the club.

However, the Italian hasn’t had the best start at his new club as, in two league fixtures, his charges have managed just one point which came draw against in the season opener against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Whatever encouraging signs they picked up against the league champions were soon overshadowed by a reality check at home against Bidvest Wits, who thumped them convincingly as they ran off 3-1 victors on Tuesday.

Stars, on the other hand, have had almost opposite fortunes to the 2018/19 campaign as they registered their first win against Maritzburg United at Goble Park after they too became got on the wrong end of a Wits trouncing, losing 3-0 in their season opener.
