CWG2018: Aussie with a PB not in 800m all-time top 500 had a little moan

Caster Semenya is on her way to history, but even before we got the finals, an Australian was already complaining about… well not being as good as the other athletes.

On Friday at 12:45 South African time, Caster Semenya will be in action in the women’s 800m final at the Commonwealth Games in her quest of doing the double.

As ever, Semenya has completely bossed the Games. She is looking fitter and faster than she ever has before and already broke a 34-year old South African record when she won gold in the 1500m final earlier this week.

Semenya is the Queen of the Track and South Africans adore her.

She is a superb athlete, incredibly resilient and infinitely polite. If only her competitors could learn from her modesty, eh?

While some of the Aussie athletes were recently praised for their act of sportsmanship, others were already sour in the lead up to the 800m heats at the Commonwealth Games.

In the lead up to the 800m heats, Aussie runner Brittany McGowan was quoted as saying:

“It’s a tough one. It’s tough for a lot of women in the 800m, 400m and 1500m at the moment to compare ourselves and be judged by our governing bodies on those times.”

McGowan’s PB in the 800m is 2:00.24, not even in the top 100 of all times.

Ja, think about that for a second. More than 100 times, women have run better times than her in the 800m event, but she’s complaining about athletes at this competition.

In fact, her PB is not even in the top 500… or even in the top… ag, you know what, go have a look at the full IAAF 800m all-time bests here and see for yourself.

Shame, meisie.

McGowan didn’t even qualify for Friday’s final with her time in the heats – finishing fourth in her race with a time of 2:01.17.

Look, we’re not saying it isn’t tough out there for athletes. But we’re also saying that maybe some of these runners who moan so frequently just aren’t as good as they think they are in context, eh?
