Saturday sees a mouth-watering clash in the PSL, as overwhelming title favourites, Mamelodi Sundowns take on defending champions Bidvest Wits at Loftus Versfeld.

The hosts pretty much have one hand on the trophy, following title rivals, Orlando Pirates’ slip up on Wednesday, when they failed to score and had to settle for a draw against relegation-threatened, Supersport United.

The results moved the Buccaneers a point closer to the summit of the log, but it’s Sundowns who are still at an advantage as they have a game in hand, and a win against Wits will place them six points clear at the top.

They will however be wary, as it was at at this stage of last season’s campaign when Saturday’s opponents snatched the title from their grasp as they stumbled with just a handful of games remaining.

Form guide

The visitors come off a disappointing result, as they were stunned by the struggling Ajax Cape Town on their visit to the Mother City on Wednesday night.

They have been one of the form clubs since the start of the new year though – as they have managed to turn around a disappointing start to their league campaign, which saw them spend much of the 2017 half switching between last and second last place in the standings.

The defeat in Cape Town is a blight in what has been a good run in their last five outings, where they managed three victories and one draw before being upset by the Urban Warriors.

They come up against a side who have won their last three matches, after falling to two consecutive draws which saw the in form Buccaneers creep up to make it a tight race for the title.

Head to head

Sundowns is looking for a league double over the visitors, after triumphing 2-0 in their last meeting in November last year.

Their last six encounters have all produced a winner, with the Brazilians winning four games to Wits’ two.

Kick off

The match was originally scheduled to kick off at 15:00 (SAST), but has been moved to 18:00.

TV and live stream

Supersport 4 will stream the game, with the live build-up starting at 17:30.
