Chiefs boss shares update on suspended veteran Khune

Kaizer Chiefs veteran gloveman Itumeleng Khune remains suspended by the club and that is the word from boss Bobby Motaung.

The Chiefs boss and football manager, Motaung says Khune is still suspended and he can’t elaborate on when the veteran will be back into the first team.

At the same time, media reports suggest that the seasoned Khune could be out of Chiefs after spending more than a decade at Naturena.

The South African understands that the former Bafana Bafana stopper and skipper was advised to also consider rehabilitation.

Chiefs’ Khune was found guilty of coming to training under the influence of alcohol and the club’s boss gives an update.

The suspension adds to speculation that Khune could leave Chiefs at the end of the current DStv Premiership as his contract expires in June 2024.

According to the Sowetan, the 36-year-old is still going through the suspension process at Chiefs.

“I can’t share the time frame as to when he’ll be integrated with the team, but he’s still in the process of suspension,” Chiefs boss Motaung shares an update on Khune. 

“Remember, he was suspended by the disciplinary committee, so there’s a process and he’s following that process.

“The suspension may be expiring soon, but there are still processes to be followed before he forms part of the team again.”

Chiefs suspended the gifted keeper, Khune back in December last year and his future remains a subject of speculation.

KHUNE PUSHED OUT OF CHIEFS?

In a related post, this publication published that the current Afcon pundit with SABC Sport, that Khune’s suspension is a signal they want to get rid of the veteran keeper.

“Khune feels that he could have been protected more by the club instead of them going public about his suspension,” a source told Phakaaathi’s Mgosi squad.

“The funny thing is that he didn’t arrive at training drunk. The story was obviously leaked to the media to tarnish his image. Players had a day off, and most of the guys drank.

“The unfortunate thing is that he will never clear his name or speak negatively about Chiefs in public because he loves the club.

“But he knows that his time is up because he can see that he’s being pushed out.”

As things stand, Khune’s availability is doubtful for their league match as they host TS Galaxy at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday next week.
