In the lead up to the  Boks’ convincing 35-6 victory against Italy on Saturday, they were hosted by Petrarca, a local rugby club in Padova.

To make them feel at home the club went all out in bringing a bit of South Africa to the gathering by summoning the help of one of the local choirs to do what the do best… sing, and what better number is there than any country’s most famous musical number, it’s national anthem.

Now we’ve seen how the singing of the national anthem can go either way at times. Remember Ard Matthews? No? Well, what about Ras Dumisani?

Well, there were no worries of that happening here as the Italians executed it almost perfectly, to a thumbs-up from Bok captain, Eben Etzebeth and nods of approval from Courtnall Skosan, Bongi Mbonambi and Pieter-Steph du Toit who looked on singinging along with pride.

This might have spurred them to their most clinical performance of the tour so far. If only and Irish club had organised a similar welcome.
