Bryson DeChambeau birdied three of his last five holes to win the LIV Golf Chicago title on Sunday when Anirban Lahiri missed an eight-foot par putt on the 18th hole.

DeChambeau, who began the day eight adrift, fired an eight-under par 63 in the closing round at Rich Harvest Farms in suburban Chicago to finish 54 holes on 13-under 200.

That was good enough to give the 30-year-old American a one-stroke triumph over Australian Marc Leishman and India’s Lahiri, who led most of the last round and would have forced a playoff with a closing par.

DeChambeau earned $4 million for his victory, taking his earnings this season to $13 million.

In the team competition, DeChambeau’s Crushers team, which also has Anirban Lahiri, Charles Howell III and Paul Casey, split $3 million.

The Fireballs (Sergio Garcia, Abraham Ancer, Eugenio Chacarra, Carlos Ortiz) shared in the $1.5 million second-place team prize.

The 4 Aces (Dustin Johnson, Peter Uihlein, Pat Perez, Patrick Reed) divvied up $500 000.

For the four South Africans in the field, it wasn’t the best of tournaments, but they still do nicely thanks very much!

Meanwhile, Branden Grace ended in a tie for 29th on three-under par and banked $156 000 (R2.9 million).
