T20 World Cup: How does the Super 8 stage work

The Super 8 stage at the T20 World Cup replaces a single elimination quarter-final round with an additional group phase which will determine the semi-finalists.
How does the Super 8 stage work
Firstly, after the 20 teams have been whittled down to eight they will be assigned to a Super 8 group made up of four teams.
Those spots in the Super 8 groups are determined by a pre-tournament seeding based on the ICC T20I rankings.
The groups will be known as Group 1 and Group 2 and at the time of writing only one place was still up for grabs.
As mentioned above, the ICC pre-seeded eight teams as per T20I rankings (2 from each group). They are India (A1), Pakistan (A2), England (B1), Australia (B2), New Zealand (C1), West Indies (C2), South Africa (D1) and D2 (Sri Lanka).
Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand have failed to make the stage and are therefore replaced in their seeding by the team that qualified ahead of them.
Group stage placing does not have any bearing on the seeding, for instance Australia topped their group ahead of England but hold onto the same seeding and go into the same group they would have if they had finished second.
How the Super 8s groups look as things stand
Group 1: A1 (India), B2 (Australia), C1 (Afghanistan), D2 (Most likely Bangladesh)
Group 2: A2 (USA), B1 (England), C2 (West Indies), D1 (South Africa)

The Super 8 stage will get underway on 19 June, when South Africa face the USA, and will also run until 25 June.
Following this the semi-finals will take place on 27 June, with the T20 World Cup final playing out on 29 June.
Each team will play every other team in their groups in the Super 8 stage, meaning they will play three games in all in the phase.
Finally, the top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals. Teams are awarded two points for a win, one point each if the match ends in a no result (washout). No bonus points are available in this format of the competition. If teams finish level on points net run rate is the first tie-breaker.
