With two wins in two matches, Proteas looked well set to make it three World Cup wins against the Netherlands until rain intervened.

The match was scheduled to be played at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, but rain delayed the start of the match which annoyed many South African fans.

In their past four World Cup campaigns, rain has disrupted Proteas’ progress, especially in the 1992, 2003, and 2015 tournaments.

Rain threatens to ruin Proteas’ World Cup

The team, led by Temba Bavuma has so far showed their class and dominance against Sri Lanka and Australia in their first games and are now amongst the top three favourites to win the World Cup.

A win against the Dutch would put South Africa back on top of the group however if the match is abandoned due to rain, both teams will share a point each.

The worst-case scenario is that the match gets reduced to 20 or 30 overs, giving the advantage to the Netherlands.

“It’s not a Cricket world cup until rain steps in to mess up the Proteas momentum,” said @Lloydbhudda in a tweet.

@LUNG1SANI said, “Why does it always rain when the proteas have to play the likes of netherlands and co? smh. it never rains when we have to play india, england, pakistan, australia etc.”

“I swear the rain only comes to disrupt the Proteas on their easy games . When we playing our difficult games and are struggling the rain never helps us, can’t be dropping points today,” @radzjeewa7 said in a tweet.

Proteas fans worried that rain will dirsrupt the team’s momentum and ruin their World Cup chances.

By 11:30, the rain covers were still on and the play was delayed.
