The 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) teams didn’t show much love for the South African players available in Tuesday’s auction.

Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee was bought by the Mumbai Indians for $602 000 (R11.1 million), while batsman Tristan Stubbs was snapped up by the Delhi Capitals for $60 000 (R1.1 million).

Late in the auction, batsman Rilee Rossouw was signed by the Punjab Kings for $936 900 (R17.2 million).

Finally, speedster Nandre Burger was sold to the Rajasthan Royals for $60 000 (R1.1 million).

Those were the only four South Africans bought at auction.

South Africans who didn’t find a buyer included Tabraiz Shamsi and Rassie van der Dussen.

Meanwhile, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc smashed the all-time IPL record when he was snapped up by the Kolkata Knight Riders for $2.98 million (R54.6 million).

The start date for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) is yet to be confirmed.

Next year’s tournament will be the 17th edition.

The Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions.
