PSL news: Benni McCarthy earns UEFA Pro Coaching Licence
Benni McCarthy has become one of the most qualified coaches in local football circles after obtaining his UEFA Pro Coaching Licence this week.

Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has become the first local coach in the PSL to earn a UEFA Pro Coaching Licence.
The 40-year-old took charge of the outfit ahead of the 2017/18 season, replacing Eric Tinkler and recently won his first piece of silverware as head coach when the Citizens beat Supersport United to win in the MTN8 final earlier this season.
McCarthy graduated in Ireland alongside former Brighton and Hove Albion defender Liam Rosenior, and is now one of the most qualified coaches in local football circles, joining the likes of Bafana coach Stuart Baxter in holding the elite licence.
By acquiring the UEFA Pro Coaching Licence – the highest coaching certification in football – McCarthy now qualifies to take charge of any team in any of Europe’s top-tier leagues, as well as compete in the Champions League and the Europa League.

The 40-year-old’s Cape Town City are currently 11th on the PSL log, and their next assignment is a home encounter against Black Leopards on Sunday, 11 November.
