So, you know the story about the three US swimmers who were apparently robbed at gun point after a night on the piss? Well, turns out they made the whole thing up to cover up another story.

According to ABC, a Brazilian police source has claimed that CCTV footage has been found showing the 32-year-old and his mates breaking down a bathroom door at a gas station and fighting with a security guard.

Lochte was out with Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger and these two – who were on their way back home before being pulled off the plane by Brazillian authorities – along with a fourth American swimmer, Jimmy Feigen, have agreed to speak with local authorities about the alleged armed robbery and spilled the beans, according to AP.

Lochte’s version of events was rather different. After the news broke, he described to NBC in detail how men impersonating police officers approached him and his group. “We got pulled over, in the taxi, and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge, no lights, no nothing just a police badge and they pulled us over,” the 32-year-old swimmer told NBC’s Today show.

“They pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground – they got down on the ground. I refused, I was like we didn’t do anything wrong, so I’m not getting down on the ground. And then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said: ‘Get down,’ and I put my hands up, I was like ‘whatever’. He took our money, he took my wallet, he left my cellphone, he left my credentials.”

But things have gone rather south now. Apparently, at one point during their visit to the gas station, the swimmers urinated outside the bathroom, a station manager told O Globo newspaper.

The New York Post reports:

O Globo published security video that appears to show the swimmer being chased out of a bathroom area – but didn’t show any urination.

They tried to jump into yellow taxi cab before they were stopped, walked out and appeared to offer money, the video showed.

Well, that escalated quickly…
