South Africa’s Henri Schoeman bagged a bronze medal for team South Africa in the triathlon.  Schoeman has never managed a podium finish in a  major world championships.

That hardly mattered on Thursday, though, as Schoeman held his nerve and bagged a bronze with an absolutely incredible effort. He was good in the swim, good in the cycling and absolutely blitzed his run to finish behind the Brownlee brothers. It was South Africa’s first ever medal in an Olympic triathlon.

South Africa’s Richard Murray ended in fourth place after a dodgy swim. He ran like a complete boss to make up for that little faux pas, though, but it was all about Schoeman who took the bronze. The 24-year old looked completely stunned with his effort.

Schoeman is ranked seventh in the world and as a youngster, clearly has a very bright future ahead of him.
