POLICE MAKE GRUESOME DISCOVERY ON MONDAY

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said that the victims were allegedly shot by unknown assailants at a house in Mngadi Road, Folweni.

“Police were only alerted by members of the community this morning and discovered the gruesome scene,” said Naicker.

Six bodies – four men and two women – were found inside the house with multiple gunshot wounds. The victims, aged between 26 and 32, were declared dead at the scene of the crime.

A 27-year-old woman – the seventh victim – was still alive when the authorities arrived at the house. She was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

KZN Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanzi condemned the mass shooting and said preliminary investigations lead the police to believe the motive may be related to “criminality in the area.”

“We are appealing to the community to come forward with information that will assist in identifying those behind the killings,” said Mkhwanzi. The KZN investigative unit has assumed control of the matter and charges of murder and attempted murder are under investigation.
