How to photograph lunar events

These days most smartphones have a capable enough camera, which can record the lunar phase for beautiful and unique snapshots or videos.

Supermoons can be easier to record, because the lunar event makes it appear brighter and larger on camera. Full lunar events can also be easier to catch, because these create more light than dark lunar events.

It’s not just point and shoot.

For taking great moon photographs, you should:

  • Pay attention to the time: moons can be brighter at their peak.
  • Turn off your flash, which can cause unnecessary glare.
  • Steady your hands, use a selfie-stick or rest your elbows against something.
  • Set the quality of your photographs to high to make sure you get the best shot.
