South Africa is a beautiful land, with beautiful people, and some extremely beautiful homes, for some incredibly high prices. Like many other things in our beautiful country, the prices of houses are among the highest in the world.

Prices of things in South Africa seem to be increasing year on year, and while we are one of the most expensive countries when it comes to data and fuel, we are also one of the most expensive when it comes to housing. But let’s be honest, there isn’t another place in the world (at least where I have been, and I’ve been around quite a bit) that has the landscapes, and silhouettes that our country has to offer. From being sandwiched between mountains and oceans in the cape, to the incredible coastline of Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa has the views to go with the delicious price tags of its properties.

With Pricing so high per square meter in Cape Town, the city competes alongside the likes of London of Hong Kong on the property front, while at the same time offering its residents a world-class lifestyle.

These are currently the five most expensive homes in South Africa

1. Clifton – R150 million

This magnificent house on the slopes of Clifton boasts panoramic views of the ocean. The glorious mansion gives you the feeling of being on top of the world, and if it isn’t the ocean you are visiting, there is no other reason for you to leave. Featuring a rim-flow pool, cinema, gym, and a garden inspired by Zen, there isn’t a possible reason you could want to leave the property. To add that extra bit of sophistication and luxury, the house is fitted with automated curtains so that you don’t have to go closing your curtains manually. At R150 Million this is the most expensive house in South Africa.

2. Mouille Point – R88 million

Remember when you were watching Gossip Girl and all they ever did was have brunches and parties at billion-dollar penthouses? Well, here in Mouille Point there’s a penthouse that fits the bill. This house in Mouille Point is fully fitted with a grand entertainment area, as well as a private rooftop swimming pool. This rooftop pool offers the most magnificent views of the ocean while also giving you the best views of both sunrise and sunset on Cape Towns’ iconic Table Mountain.

3. Camps Bay – R85 million

While it isn’t the most expensive house on our list, this R85 million mansion in Cape Towns’ landmark Camps Bay district is stately, to say the least. Comprising a 7-bedroom home, a summer house, a flatlet, and a cottage, you get four houses in one. If that isn’t enough to whet the appetite to splash your cash, it also includes a gym, sauna, and a heated pool. The house is finished with exposed trusses, sandstone floors and shimmering chandeliers.

4. Zimbali Coastal Resort – R70 million

This R70 million property takes you up the eastern coast of South Africa to Zimbali, in KwaZulu Natal. Houses here take pride in offering 180-degree views of the Indian Ocean, and the houses comprise everything that gives this mansion 70 million reasons to buy. Boasting three swimming pools that are strategically positioned to beat the elements, the property also gives its residents access to all the social amenities that the resort offers including tennis courts, golf courses, and other amenities.

5. Sandhurst – Sandton R65 Million

You couldn’t have gone to a full list of houses without naming one in one of the most expensive cities in the world, right? Johannesburg is high on the list of priciest cities, and Sandhurst is perhaps one of the many reasons it finds itself there. People here lead luxurious lives, and this home is the perfect fit. Comprising of seven bedrooms, five bathrooms, spacious living areas, as well as a server room, a 25 m heated lap pool accompanied by an al fresco entertainment area. In short, it’s fit for royalty.
