Load shedding crisis has cost Gauteng over 300 000 jobs

Approximately 302 893 lost job opportunities in Gauteng due to load shedding.

The Democratic Alliance (DA), said this information was revealed in a reply to its questions tabled in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL).

“According to the Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Tasneem Motara, the country experienced around 3212 hours of load-shedding during 2022 compared to the 1153 hours of load-shedding experienced during 2021.

WATCH: A 11-year-old girl survives HORRIFIC freak accident

An 11-year-old girl survived a HORRIFIC accident when a 20-ton construction vehicle dropped its loads on her family’s vehicle.

The freak accident happened in Paarl last week.

According to the Drakenstein Farm Watch (DFW), a big construction vehicle, weighing at least 20 tons while dropping its load during roadworks, fell sideways on top of a passing vehicle.

The incident took place on the Paarl R301 to Franschoek opposite Boschandmeer Estate around 14.23.

New Joburg Mayor’s qualifications questioned by opposition parties

Joburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda was expected to respond to questions about his academic qualifications but he never showed up.

ActionSA has expressed concern that new Joburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda’s qualifications were being called into question.

It is being reported that his qualifications don’t check out and that the vetting process used for his election may have been tampered with.\

WATCH: ‘Drunk’ police officer in uniform knocks down biker

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng says a criminal case of drunk and driving has been opened against a police officer who allegedly knocked down a biker with his private vehicle. 

The officer was reportedly off duty at the time and a video of the incident which reportedly happened in Proclamation Hill, Pretoria West has been circulating on social media platforms. 

Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the management of the police in Gauteng has noted with disappointment the video circulating on social media where a drunk off duty member in uniform hit a civilian with his private vehicle.

Adult female killed in Umlazi cash-in-transit heist cross-fire

An adult female was fatally wounded in Umlazi, south of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal when a cash-in-transit vehicle came under fire.

Earlier this evening, Monday, 15 May, Emer-G-Med paramedics together with multiple emergency service agencies responded to the M35 Umlazi South of Durban for the cash-in-transit heist.

“On arrival on scene teams were met with chaos as the carcass of an armoured van which had been blown up by unknown suspects, occupied the roadway,” Emer-G Med reported.

“One guard was found with a gunshot wound, whilst a second was found to have been assaulted.”

SANDF commander in Moscow to discuss military cooperation with Russia

According to Russian news agencies quoting the country’s Ministry of Defence, the commander of the South Africa National Defence Force’s (SANDF) ground forces is in the Russian capital of Moscow.

AFP reported Lieutenant-General Lawrence Mbatha is leading a delegation to discuss “issues relating to military cooperation and interaction” with his Russian counterparts.

Mbatha visited “educational institution of the ground forces and enterprises of the military-industrial complex” in Russia, and there was an agreement to further increase cooperation between the ground force of the nations in various fields.
