According to the ZBC, all polling stations across the country were supposed to open at 7am and close at 7pm but due to delays in the delivery of some polling materials, polling will continue until Thursday in some affected areas.

“Under the Electoral Act, the presiding officer at a polling station has a right to extend voting hours to compensate for any delays incurred during the voting process.”

ZIMBABWE ELECTORAL COMMISSION EXPLAINS POLLING DELAY

It is reported that 30 per cent of the polling stations opened late after the glitch this morning.

Delays in the opening have largely been caused by delays in printing the ballot paper arising from numerous Court challenges, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) responded.

ZEC THANKS LOCALS FOR POLITICAL TOLERANCE

“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission takes this opportunity to thank the people of Zimbabwe for the political tolerance and maturity that has been exhibited thus far. We urge all voters at polling stations where delays are being experienced to remain patient as we work tirelessly to ensure delivery of the required material so that they exercise their right to vote.
“ZEC implores all citizens of all political persuasions to continue to exercise tolerance and respect each other so that we can collectively deliver a free, fair and credible election,” the electoral body stated.
