RIP Zahara: Family confirms funeral details

The family of late singer and songwriter Bulelwa ‘Zahara’ Mkutukana have confirmed the funeral details. Here’s the latest..

The funeral service of late multi award winning singer Bulelwa ‘Zahara’ Mkutukana will be held on Saturday, 23 December.

The late singer passed away on Monday, 11 December at a hospital in Johannesburg after a short illness. She was admitted in November.

ZAHARA FUNERAL DETAILS

As previously reported by The South African, Zahara was admitted to hospital in November after she fell ill. According to reports the singer had been transfered to the intensive care unit (ICU) in November.

The Mkutukana family said their daughter will be laid to rest on Saturday, 23 December in East London in the Eastern Cape.

Zahara’s body is also expected to arrive in East London next week.

A memorial service will be held at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg on Thursday, 14 December at 11:00.

FAMILY DOES NOT SUSPECT FOUL PLAY

Speaking to the SABC, family spokesperson Nkosiyam Mkutukana said they do not suspect foul play as it has been widely reported that she was allegedly poisoned by a close family member around the time of her lobola negotiations.

“Until we are told otherwise we are not expecting anything,” he said.

The Mkutukana family has since described Zahara as a beacon of hope, a gift and a blessing to the wrold.

“A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. May we remember Zahara not with sorrow, but with the healing, joy, kindness and inspiration she brought to us through her life and her music,” the family said.
