Arts and Culture Minister challenges SAMRO to protect musicians
Minister Kodwa said he was pleased and supports SAMRO’s ongoing investigation into the exploitation of musicians by record labels.

The Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa engaged the South African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) to do right by the musicians of this country.
MINISTER KODWA GIVES FEEDBACK ON SAMRO MEETING
Yesterday, Wednesday, 13 December, Minister Kodwa revealed his visit to SAMRO despite limiting the nitty-gritty information about the meeting.
“I met with @SAMROMusic Chairperson and CEO, as I’d committed at its recently held AGM. I challenged SAMRO to protect the well-being and livelihood of musicians. I am pleased and support SAMRO’s ongoing investigation of the exploitation of musicians by record labels,” said Minister Kodwa.

ZAHARA’S DEATH BRINGS MUSIC BUSINESS TO THE SPOTLIGHT
This comes after DJ Sbu, the co-founder of the defunct TS Record, was accused of stealing millions of rands from Zahara’s debut album Loliwe. This multi-platinum-selling studio album was released in 2011.
Zahara, real name, Bulelwa Mtukukana, died an unhappy artist after she revealed on multiple platforms that she made peanuts out of her albums released under TS Records.

DJ Sbu has on platforms that he owns, dismissed the allegations that were made by Zahara, claiming to have been fair to her during her stay under the stable.
MINISTER KODWA ANNOUNCES THE SINGER’S PASSING
The singer-songwriter passed away at the age of 36 on 11 December after she had been in a coma. Her untimely demise was confirmed by Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, who later paid her family a visit.
The singer will be buried in the Eastern Cape on 23 December, with her memorial service taking place today, Thursday, 14 December at Rhema Bible Church in Randburg, Johannesburg from 11am to 2pm.
Some of her fans have appealed to the government for a Provincial Funeral.
