According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), an investigation revealed that on Tuesday, 27 December 2022, the mother of the two-year-old boy left him in the care of relatives at Rosedale near Pacaltsdorp in George.

On her return, the mother noticed injuries on the child’s face and took him to the local hospital for medical treatment. Medical personnel later summoned police and found the toddler with injuries to his face, an open wound, and bruises around the eyes inflicted by an unknown object.
