Robbers were caught in Hillbrow after video footage was circulated on social media of a gang stranging and robbing unsuspecting victims

After being seen on video strangling and robbing members of the public, a gang of robbers in Hillbrow was caught in the act on 1 January 2023.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) commended the IIOC Undercover Reaction Unit for its swift response.
They responded to a complaint after videos of criminals strangling and robbing unsuspecting victims on Twist Street and Peterson Street in Hillbrow circulated on social media.
On New Year’s Day, the team went to the designated location for observation.
Four men attacked an unsuspecting male victim while they were watching.
While the others searched for him, one suspect strangled the victim.
Officers rushed in and apprehended three suspects in record time.
The gang was arrested and charged with common robbery after being part of a group wanted for terrorising the community and using Vannin Court as a hideout.
Police are asking victims of a gang suspected to be responsible for street robberies in Hillbrow to come forward.
