The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) have made announcements regarding the validity status of the Gold Card.

Many South Africans are dependant on the gold card to receive their social grant, of which there are more than 18 mililon paid to citizens. Previously, it was announced that gold cards will expire in December of this year – a move which could leave many unable to claim their grants.

Here’s what has just been announced as an update to the SASSA gold card.

SASSA Grant Cards for 2024

According to SA Government news, the social grant card will remain valid until past December.

This means that social grant cards will not expire this year as it was previously announced. Instead of December-expiry, social grant recipients can be aware that their cards will still be valid well into 2024.

If you use your SASSA card to claim your grant, expect that your card will still be working from the earlier-given December date.

There is no need to apply for a new card before the end of the year. If you use the gold card, then it will still work AS NORMAL.

SASSA Gold Cards

The extended validity of gold cards comes as good news for most social grant recipients.

The gold card is meant to work just like a traditional bank card.

It can be swiped at certain retailers, and be used to draw cash at till-points and ATMs.

Gold cards get a PIN code, which should be kept safe and secure. Never tell anyone your pin, and according to SASSA, nobody at the agency is allowed to ask you for your card details.
