Gusts of up to 80km/h are expected throughout the week in the Western Cape, posing risks to sea navigation, small vessels, and beachfront activities.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for wind in the Western Cape on Monday, 12 June. The weather warning key indicates there is a high chance of minor weather-based impacts.
The Western Cape wind warning is valid from 00:00 Monday until 20:00 on Thursday, 15 June. The wind is associated with a series of cold fronts” that are expected throughout the week.
“The strong winds (50km/h to 70km/h gusting 80km/h) will mostly be between westerly to northwesterly throughout the week,” said the weather service.

On Monday, the wind is expected between Cape Agulhas and Plettenberg Bay. On Tuesday, between Cape Point and Still Bay, and on Wednesday, between Cape Agulhas and Plettenberg Bay again.
Thursday morning should see gusts between Saldanha Bay and Cape Agulhas.

“Along with these strong winds, high wave heights are also expected in lengthy periods (10 to 12 seconds) throughout the week, which will result in rough seas and choppy seas (likely quick successive, steep waves),” said the weather service.
