Orange level 6 warning for damaging winds and waves in Cape provinces
Orange level 6 warnings for damaging winds and waves have also been issued as a cut-off low system moves over parts of the country.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued Orange level 6 warnings for damaging winds and waves in the Northern and Western Cape provinces.
The warnings were upgraded on Sunday, 24 September and are effective until Monday, 25 September.
DAMAGING WINDS AND WAVES IN CAPE PROVINCES
As previously reported by The South African, a cut-off low pressure system developed on Saturday, 23 September and is expected to cause dangerous weather conditions over parts of the country mainly from Sunday.
The weather service said Eastern Cape and Western Cape will bear the brunt of the extreme weather conditions with the potential for widespread flooding, very rough seas and damaging winds to occur.

With regards to damaging winds and waves, the weather service said an upper air cut-off low pressure system will be situated over the Northern and Western Cape on Sunday into Monday morning with a surface low pressure just east of it.
“Strong to gale force (36-74km/h) southerly to south-easterly win but strong gale (75-87km/h) in places along the south and south-west coast together with south-easterly swell of between 4 – 6m can be expected from Sunday afternoon into Monday, subsiding from the evening,” SAWS said.
Gale-force (57-74km/h) south to south-easterly winds are expected along the Garden Route and Overberg from Sunday afternoon becoming south-westerly on Monday.
