The cold front is expected to move over the Western Cape on Monday. There is also a wind and waves warning valid for the coast from Alexander Bay in the Northern Cape to Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape. Wave of heights of up to eight metres is forecasted.

The City of Cape Town and coastal towns along the southwestern and south coast of the province will be affected.

Western Cape MEC for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell, said the provincial government was concerned about the latest weather system, which is predicted to cause more heavy rain in the Cape Winelands and Overberg municipalities and potentially lead to more flooding.

“Also predicted are large swells and gale-force winds along our coastline, as well as near gale-force winds in the Central Karoo. The rain is expected to be followed by freezing temperatures in the interior of the province on Wednesday, after which conditions are expected to improve,” said the department.
