WEATHER ALERT: Mangaung Metro road closures due to heavy rains

Heavy rains coupled with severe thunderstorms descended on Mangaung (Bloemfontein), forcing road closure this afternoon.

Heavy rains coupled with severe thunderstorms descended on Mangaung (Bloemfontein), forcing road closures in parts of the city this afternoon, Friday, 5 January.

MANGAUNG RESIDENTS WARNED ABOUT HEAVY RAINS

Residents of Mangaung Metro have been urged to be cautious on the roads and in their homes as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an Impact Based Level 2 warning for heavy rains (severe thunderstorms) over the central interior.

“The warning is valid for Friday, 05 January 2024 from 14H00 until 23H00.”

All residents and road users are asked to pay attention to alerts and warnings.

FORT SUBWAY IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED IN BLOEMFONTEIN

The heavy rains have also forced the Fort Road Subway closure in Bloemfontein.

“Motorists and all road users in the Metro’s jurisdiction are notified that the subway in Fort Road, Bloemfontein is temporarily closed, as a result of the recent heavy downpours,” the Metro cautioned.

Motorists can use these alternative routes to reach the Bloemfontein CBD:

  • Hamilton Road via Fort Hare Road, right into Harvey Road to the city.
  • From Dr Belcher: right into McGregor Street – left into Maselspoort Road to the City.

“Residents will be continuously kept abreast on developments. Mangaung Metro apologises for the inconvenience this has caused,” said the Metro.
