In a fervent display of frustration, residents in Verulam, situated north of Durban, have taken to the streets to protest against persistent water outages that have plagued the area.

On Monday morning, the dissent escalated as residents ignited a symbolic blaze, burning tyres and obstructing roads, effectively isolating the community from the rest of the region.

The R102 at Tottenham Intersection in Ottawa became a focal point of the protests as residents erected barricades, underscoring the depth of their discontent.

eThekwini Municipality issues urgent notice

In response to the escalating Verulam water protests, the eThekwini Municipality, acknowledging the gravity of the situation, issued a public notice yesterday. The Ottawa and Verulam Clinics, vital healthcare facilities in the affected zone, bore the brunt of the unrest.

“Patients using the Ottawa and Verulam Clinics are urged to exercise patience,” emphasised the municipality.

Amid the Verulam water protests, Metro Police are actively resolving the situation. They are prioritising the safety of both staff and the public. The clinics will only resume operations when authorities deem conditions secure.
