Johannesburg Water systems are expected to remain under strain due to the heat wave and load shedding next week.

HEAT WAVE AND LOAD SHEDDING CRISIS

Johannesburg Water said the ongoing heat wave is putting a strain on the systems. Furthermore, towers and pump stations are impacted by the current Stage 6 (which will be reduced to stage 4 from 12:00) load shedding.

“The impacted systems and supply zone will experience poor to no water as a result.”

The latest on the water systems:

Rabie Ridge Reservoir and tower

The reservoir remained stable overnight, but still low and supplying at 30% while the tower remains on bypass mode.

Commando System

  • Brixton reservoir: The reservoir has improved and is supplying normal, However, on downwards trend due to high demand. The outlet will be throttled overnight.
  • Brixton tower: The tower remained stable overnight and is supplying normally but may be affected by the low reservoir level. Johannesburg Water teams continue to monitor the tower.
  • Hursthill 1 and 2 reservoirs: Both reservoirs are low and poor pressure to no water is expected in high-lying areas. The outlets to both reservoirs are fully opened. Hursthill 1 reservoir has been configured to boost supply, while Hursthill 2 reservoir outlet will be closed overnight to build capacity for Saturday.
Crosby reservoir: The reservoir improved overnight but remains low. Poor pressure is expected in high-lying areas of the supply zone. The outlet is, however, fully opened.

YEOVILLE PUMP STATION

The Yeoville pump station is currently off due to City Power’s area outage. No water is expected in the supply zone.

FOREST HILL TOWER

The tower was low due to load shedding and high demand. Pumping has resumed and residents should start receiving water.
