Chaos broke out at CPUT after police and students clashed after classrooms were set on fire. Rocks were thrown and stun grenades were let off.
Police have fired stun grenades at students on Monday as chaos swarms the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) campus.
Lauren Kansley, CPUT’s spokesperson told News24 that police, campus security and private security were currently working to contain the situation at the Cape Town campus. Kansley said a group of students had set fire to multiple classrooms in the early hours of the morning.
“We believe attacks like these are an attempt, by a small group of students, to disrupt exams and wreak havoc. CPUT has over six campuses and exams at other venues are continuing uninterrupted.”
No campuses have officially been shut down at this stage.
