Results from a survey conducted by the Flight Centre Travel Group reveal that a large number of South Africans take overseas trips to find love.

LOOKING FOR LOVE ABROAD

The fact that South Africa is often fraught with challenges in so many areas of life may be a factor spurring young people to seek love abroad.

It might also be an ideal opportunity for opening doors to greener pastures with a newfound partner.

TRAVEL SURVEY

According to Travel News, a survey of 4 050 millennial and Gen-Z respondents (aged between 18 and 42) revealed surprising results.

The survey, which included participants from several English-speaking countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom, revealed that the majority of South Africans travel to find love.

SURVEY RESULTS

The survey reported that 63% of South Africans actively seek romance while travelling abroad.

New Zealanders came in second, with 59% saying that a holiday is the perfect place to find love.

Responses from other nations were significantly lower, with Australia at 40%, Canada at 41%, and the United Kingdom coming in at 23%.

SOLO TRAVEL

The report also revealed there is a growing desire for travellers to take trips on their own.

The results showed that 60% of surveyed participants were “very likely” or “somewhat likely” to travel alone.

TRAVEL FOR LOVE

Many people have gone on to find their husbands, wives or lifelong partners while backpacking through Asia, partying in the Greek Isles, working on a kibbutz or just walking through Paris!

The idea of finding love or romance while travelling abroad is not new. The plot behind many movies is based on this idea.

While travelling, you can often be put in a new mental and emotional space, allowing yourself to explore and experience new paradigms.

“This passion for finding love across borders may stem from South Africans’ sense of adventure and openness to new experiences. The diversity of cultures and landscapes across the globe offers the perfect backdrop for making meaningful connections,” said Euan McNeil, MD of Flight Centre Travel Group South Africa, per Travel News
