A tourist from Saudi Arabia fell to her death from a suspension bridge in the Tsitsikamma National Park.

Reynold Thakhuli, spokesperson for the South African National Parks (SANParks) said the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon.

“A woman believed to be between the ages of 50 and 60 suffered a fatal fall on a trail leading to the suspension bridge in Tsitsikamma National Park on Wednesday.”

He said the woman’s husband was with her at the time of the tragic incident.

According to Thakhuli the Park Rangers and National Sea Rescue Institute successfully retrieved the body of the deceased.

Lodewyk van Rensburg, the NSRI Oyster Bay station commander, said their crew, SA National Parks rangers, SAPS, provincial paramedics, Kareedouw Fire and Rescue Services responded to the scene where the woman was declared deceased.

A SANparks craft was launched and EMS paramedics, NSRI crew, and SANparks rangers were transported to the rocks where the woman was declared dead.

“It appears that the female was with her husband and two males, one believed to be a guide, when she fell from a height onto rocks,” said Van Rensburg.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the woman,” said Thakhuli.
