A shootout occurred between the police and armed robbery suspects in Roodepoort, resulting in three suspects being fatally shot and one civilian being injured.

Three armed robbery suspects killed
On 2 March 2023, SAPS Provincial K9, Crime Intelligence, Flying Squad, Tactical Response Team, and private security companies acted on information about a group of suspects involved in armed robberies around Gauteng.
During the chase that followed, suspects opened fire at the members, resulting in the death of three suspects and injuries to one civilian.

Preliminary investigations found that the suspects had robbed a local post office.
They had used a vehicle with false number plates.
Firearms and cash found
Three firearms and an undisclosed amount of cash were found on the suspects.
One vehicle used by other suspects got away.

Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, the Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, praised the team for their swift response.
