‘The sooner the speaker leaves the better,’ says DA chief whip
The DA says Parliament must remove Mapisa-Nqakula as speaker and she should hand herself over to the police for processing.

Political parties have spared no mercy for National Assembly Speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, saying that she should hand herself over to the police.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) says Parliament must remove her as speaker of Parliament and Mapisa-Nqankula should hand herself over to the police for processing.
The High Court in Pretoria has dismissed Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula's attempt to halt her arrest, she is now expected to hand herself over to the police for processing. DA Chief Whip Siviwe Gwarube says parliament must remove her as speaker of parliament.

‘NO TIME FOR A MOTION OF CONFIDENCE,’ SAYS HOLOMISA
Mapisa-Nqankula failed to interdict the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader, Bantu Holomisa, said there was no time for a motion of no confidence; she should surrender to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
“We wrote to the Joint Standing Committee on Defence on March 26, 2021, about allegations that she received several payments totaling over R5 million between 2017 and 2019 from at least one company that had contracts with the South African National Defence Force when she served as Minister of Defence and Military Veterans,” says Holomisa.
“I was told to take my accusations to the police. I did, and here we are, waiting for Mapisa-Nqakula to do the right thing. She must please spare us of this business of a motion of no confidence in the National Assembly Speaker. We are busy campaigning. Mapisa-Nqakula must present herself to SAPS, finish and klaar,” he said.
‘THE SOONER SHE LEAVES THE BETTER,’ SAYS DA CHIEF WHIP
According to the Independent Online, DA Chief Whip Siviwe Gwarube said the sooner Parliament debated the motion of no confidence, the better.
She said South Africans can not have a speaker who has a cloud hanging over her head.
“Given the severity of the allegations against Mapisa-Nqakula, including 12 counts of corruption and money laundering, Parliament must act as a matter of urgency to address the motion of no confidence,” she said.
Gwarube said they welcome the judgment of the high court and the sooner the motion of no confidence was debated by Parliament the better, to protect the integrity of Parliament.
