If you have a FLIGHT booked TODAY from Cape Town amid the violent strike, you should know this.

TAXI STRIKE: DO YOU HAVE A FLIGHT BOOKED FROM CAPE TOWN TODAY?

Cape Town Airport said operations are currently normal, but they advised passengers to arrive four hours earlier for International flights and two hours earlier for domestic flights. 

This is due to road closures.

The violent taxi strike is ongoing, and several ROADS near the airport are affected on Monday morning.

THESE ROADS ARE CURRENTLY AFFECTED: 

  • N2 Highway: ROAD CLOSED towards the Airport 
  • R300 Highway: ROAD CLOSED Brackenfell to N2
  • N2 Inbound: ROAD CLOSED towards the Airport 
  • N2 Outbound: RAMP CLOSED to Airport Access Road 
  • R300 Southbound: ROAD OPEN
  • Borchards Quarry off-ramp 
  • Govan Mbeki and Symphony Way

This comes as the SA National Taxi Council (SANTACO)confirmed on Sunday evening confirmed that the strike action will continue on Monday in the Western Cape. 

The Western Cape E-hailing Association (WCEA) has since joined the minibus-taxi stay-away and is demanding an unconditional moratorium on all further impoundments.

In a joint statement, the City of Cape Town and Western Cape government said on Sunday evening, after urgent engagements throughout the weekend, the Western Cape Government and the City of Cape Town are deeply concerned that the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has resolved to continue its ongoing strike and not return to the Minibus Taxi Task Team. 

The withdrawal of taxi services since Thursday has had a devastating impact across Cape Town and the province.

THE VIOLENT TAXI STRIKE IS SET TO CONTINUE UNTIL WEDNESDAY

In a statement on Sunday evening (SANTACO) said the stay away remains in place until Wednesday after urgent talks were suspended on Sunday. 

“It is with great disappointment that we must announce that the talks between the government and the Santaco leadership, which took place in an attempt to resolve the cause for the taxi stay away, was suspended,” said Santaco’s leadership in a statement.

“However, we are open to talks with the government to find a speedy resolution to this issue, and we call on all our operators not to interfere with other modes of transport and not take part in any criminal activities.”
