Police in Kwa-Zulu Natal arrested a 44-year-old Tanzanian national after discovering her in possession of drugs worth more than R200 000.

Officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit received information on Monday, 6 March about a Tanzanian woman that arrived at a block of flats on Vernon Road in Berea with drugs.

Upon arrival at the woman’s flat, they were met with resistance. The woman didn’t want to let the police in.

POLICE ENTERED THE WOMAN’S FLAT FORCEFULLY

“The entry was gained by force and police recovered 14 clear plastic packets containing heroin powder, which weighed 1,3kg, and six clear packets of suspected cocaine powder, which weighed 379g,” said the police.

It is believed that the woman couriered the drugs from Mozambique. They were to be distributed in the eThekwini area.

The woman was arrested.

She was scheduled to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court on 7 March.

DRUGS SOLD TO LEARNERS

In a separate incident, police in Limpopo arrested two male Nigerian nationals in connection with selling drugs to learners at two schools near Flora Park Dam in Limpopo.

The police received a tip-off about a 41-year-old Nigerian who was allegedly selling drugs to learners at Northern Academy Secondary and Flora Park Secondary schools which are adjacent to Flora Park Dam.

An operation was carried out.

“The suspect was found sitting in a white Nissan Almera sedan. Police requested to search his motor vehicle and found 500 balls of heroin with an estimated street value of R20 000 concealed inside the dashboard.

“The operation continued, and his countryman aged 44 was nabbed along the N1 north next to Botlokwa just after he allegedly received the Heroine drugs from the first suspect at Flora Park dam meant for further distribution,” said the police.
