Grade R pupil who went missing on first day of school found

Grade R pupil Lindokuhle Ntsethe was reported missing on the first day of school at Sydenham Primary on Wednesday, 17 January.

Lindokuhle Ntsethe, a five-year-old Grade R pupil who was reported missing on Wednesday, 17 January has been found and is safe.

Ntsethe from Sydenham Primary School reportedly took a wrong taxi home when schools closed early due to inclement weather conditions.

MISSING GRADE R PUPIL FOUND

According to reports, a woman had kept the minor overnight and brought him back to school on Thursday morning.

As previously reported by The South African, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education said Ntsethe took the wrong taxi home and his mother had already been to three police stations but there was no sign of him.

SCHOOLS CLOSE EARLY

All the schools in KwaZulu-Natal were instructed to close early and send pupils home as torrential rains continue to batter the province.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued an orange level 5 warning for disruptive rainfall.

The weather service said the conditions could lead to widespread flooding of roads and settlements, damage to mud-based houses, and displacement of communities along the coast and northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

“The head of the department issued a circular to close early due to the weather warnings we have received from weather services. We have done this so all teachers and pupils can be safe,” KZN Education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said.
