Suspects caught red-handed stealing optical fibre cables

Three male suspects were arrested by the JMPD Operations officers for the theft of Optical Fibre, south of Johannesburg.

Three male suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Operations officers for the theft of Optical Fibre in Gillview, Johannesburg South.

JMPD CATCHES SUSPECTS DURING PATROL DUTIES

On Thursday morning, 01 June 2023, whilst conducting crime prevention patrols along Rifle Range and Side Road, JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said officers spotted a suspicious male standing outside a white Renault Kwid.

“The officers approached the vehicle to investigate what was happening, and they found five males hiding behind the vehicle, they also found Optical Fibre laying on the ground,” he said.

“Two males immediately fled the scene and the officers managed to apprehend three suspects.”

He added that the officers searched the suspects and one of them had an air gun in his possession. They also searched the vehicle and recovered digging tools, a steel saw and two spare saw blades for cutting.

“The suspects were detained at Booysens SAPS where a case docket was opened for further investigation. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime was seized and booked in at the SAPS Aeroton pound,” said Fihla.

MURDER CRIMINALS CRACK DOWN IN JOHANNESBURG

In other news, three male suspects wanted for murder were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) IIOC Undercover Reaction Unit in Riverlea and South Hills, Johannesburg.
On Tuesday, 30 May 2023, officers received information of suspects who were allegedly involved in a shooting incident that occurred on Friday, 26 May 2023, in Riverlea where two people lost their lives and one is still critical in hospital.
The suspects are allegedly well known for terrorizing the community and two of them were wanted for multiple murders.

“The officers proceeded to the given address where the suspects were last spotted. Upon their arrival at the location, the officers immediately identified and apprehended two male suspects.
“The suspects were searched and they were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and 20 mandrax tablets. The duo was arrested as per the Langlaagte SAPS case.
“Further information led the officers to another location in South Hills where a third suspect, who is also alleged to be involved in the shootings around Riverlea, South Hills and Fairland was apprehended,” Fihla explained.
