A strike has led to the cessation of operations at Prince Cyril Zulu, Verulam, Ottawa, and Redhill clinics, prompting authorities to advise patients in eThekwini who rely on their healthcare services to seek alternative options nearby.
The closures come as a result of an ongoing unauthorised strike within the eThekwini municipality, impacting essential services.
Municipal workers in eThekwini have launched a significant strike. They are demanding salary increases commensurate with their counterparts in other South African metros like Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.
DA councillor: eThekwini services hit by strike
The strike has caused noticeable disruptions across various municipal services, affecting critical areas such as Durban Solid Waste, Water and Sanitation, Parks, and Roads, according to DA councillor Mzamo Billy.
“We are reliably informed that the workers have taken to the streets to protest against the municipality, seeking improved pay that aligns with their counterparts in other metro municipalities like Tshwane and Ekurhuleni,” Councillor Billy remarked.
The closure of the aforementioned clinics underscores the far-reaching consequences of the strike. It leaves patients without access to essential healthcare services.
