The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is on high alert, issuing warnings and guidance on a variety of weather-related challenges, including unexpected storms and potential floods.

Over the weekend, a massive storm shook the Gauteng region, with the southwest and southern areas experiencing the brunt of its impact.
Weather warnings issued
Reports of hailstorms in Katlehong on Sunday heightened concerns and set alarm bells ringing for residents.

Monday brought an Orange Level 5 warning for disruptive rain in the Eastern Cape, signifying an elevated risk of flooding in settlements and on roadways, putting lives and property in jeopardy.
Meanwhile, the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) coast faced an even more dire situation with an Orange Level 6 warning for severe and disruptive rainfall. The potential for widespread flooding is real, and residents are urgently advised to exercise extreme caution and follow safety protocols.

Cogta had an urgent meeting to discuss necessary measures
The KwaZulu Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) convened an urgent meeting to discuss necessary measures.
Spokesperson Siboniso Mngadi mentioned activating disaster management centers for weather monitoring and response.
“All disaster management centres have been activated to monitor the weather pattern and risk and respond to any unforeseen events,” said Mngadi.
