Sixteen people were injured when a taxi rolled down an embankment on the R102 Thursday evening.

WHAT HAPPENED ON THURSDAY EVENING?

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said they responded to the accident scene around 18:00 on Thursday.

“Just after 18h00 on Thursday, Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene of a collision involving a minibus taxi on the R102 near the Ilovo River Bridge in the Winklespruit area south of Durban.”

REPORTS INDICATE THAT THE TAXI LEFT THE ROAD

Van Reenen said reports from the scene are that a minibus taxi left the roadway, rolling down an embankment before coming to a rest on its side.

“Sixteen commuters were treated for injuries ranging from minor to serious before being taken to various nearby hospitals for further care.”

Meanwhile, in Germiston earlier on Thursday, eleven people were injured when the taxi they were travelling in rolled on the N17 near the Rondebult turnoff in Germiston.

According to ER24, paramedics responded to the accident scene at around 09:34.

“Paramedics found a taxi and trailer on its side in the middle of the busy road. The passengers were seen seated on the side of the road.”

ELEVEN PEOPLE, INCLUDING A GIRL INJURED

Paramedics assessed the patients and found that ten adults and an 11-year-old girl had sustained minor to moderate injuries.

“Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were discovered. Paramedics treated the patients and later transported them to nearby hospitals for further care.”

ER24 said this incident’s details are unknown, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
